Legal Expertise You Can Rely On
Reid A. Curtis founded this law firm when he moved to Long Island in the late forties. Prior to his death in l987, Reid devoted his professional efforts to developing a practice that concentrated in insurance defense work. In the early eighties, Roy W. Vasile became Reid’s trusted partner until Roy’s untimely death in 2015, a year which also included the tragic passing of another loyal partner, Dominic Piccininni. Roy’s two partners at the time, Michael G. Mehary and Michael J. Dorry, are forging on and continuing their predecessors’ vision of being regarded as one of the premier "defense firms" on Long Island. The firm's caseload is concentrated in the State and Federal Courts covering Long Island and the New York metropolitan area. The firm's practice involves the defense of liability claims and insurance coverage litigation. The caseload includes all matters ranging from the simple and straightforward to the complex or catastrophic claim. In addition, the firm provides counsel to insurers and corporate or individual clients on all matters of insurance coverage. Several of the firm's major clients include self-insured municipalities, common carriers and public authorities. The firm's expertise extends to other areas of tort defense, including civil rights litigation, assault and battery claims, Dram Shop liability, lawsuits involving malicious prosecution or false arrest, and so on. The firm has been retained to defend major corporations in connection with employment discrimination claims, libel and slander suits, claims involving petroleum-product discharge, wrongful eviction, products liability, landlord-tenant and other real estate, business, commercial and construction disputes. The firm also maintains a limited plaintiff's practice for serious personal injuries, however, great care is taken to avoid accepting cases that involve any potential conflict, whether legal, ethical or pragmatic.
